About the Author
Richard Dobbs, James Manyika, and Jonathan Woetzel are the directors of the McKinsey Global Institute, the business and economics arm of the global management consulting firm McKinsey & Company.

Richard Dobbs, based in London, has led research on global economic trends, including urbanization, resource markets, capital markets, lifestyle diseases, productivity, and growth. He is a coauthor of Value: The Four Cornerstones of Corporate Finance and has taught at the Said Business School at Oxford University.

Dr. James Manyika, based in Silicon Valley since 1994, has led research on the global economy, disruptive technologies, the digital economy, and productivity. He is the author of a book on robotics as well as technical and business articles. He was appointed by President Obama as the vice chair of the President’s Global Development Council. He is a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, and is on advisory boards at Harvard, UC Berkeley, and Oxford, where he was a research fellow.

Dr. Jonathan Woetzel, based in China since 1985, has led research on urbanization, the global economy, sustainability, and productivity. He also leads McKinsey’s Cities Special Initiative and is cochair of the Urban China Initiative. He has authored four books on China, most recently The One Hour China Book, and is an adjunct professor at the China-European International Business School.

Disappointingly ordinary in its descriptions

McKinsey seeks to pull together all of the forces that seek to pull apart business strategies. The result is a surprisingly flat description that rehashes past McKinsey research reports than offer a new way to look at the world and the relevance of strategic choices and investments. The four trends are below:

Trend 1: The locus of economic activity is shifting to emerging markets like China, India, Asia and Africa
Trend 2: Technology's impact on the economy is accelerating
Trend 3: Demographics, the aging of the population is shifting demands
Trend 4: Connectedness as trade, capital, people and information flow across national boarders

Each trend is treated in a formulaic way, following a standard structure with slavish adherence. You can extract the books outline which should give you and idea of the limitations of the book's story telling or information value.

Overall, this book is filled with factoids and other little nuggets, many previously published by McKinsey's Global Institute. So if you are looking for new insight, you will not find it here. The discussions of each trend are interesting in their own ways, but the prose is rather bland and expository rather than telling an engaging story that drives understanding or action.

The book's prescriptions are surprisingly simple -- mostly around do better -- rather thank do things differently.

Overall not recommended if you are looking for new ideas. It may be helpful for others to re-enforce their strategic decisions, particularly if those decisions are not too radical.

There are plenty of interesting examples and the overall analysis is interesting, but the pace is too slow and often unengaging. Striving to make the point sink well, too much repetition is used.

Good story but...

The plot is unusual and quite interesting, with elves and demons and gods and demigods. The let down for me, is the two main characters. The blurb led me to believe that one of the MCs is a widely feared bad-ass demon but what I got is a soft spoken emotionless one with a bad rep. Other than that one scene with a hound, there is hardly any on-page display of his much touted power. The other MC is his slave, a wallflower of a character who is boring and uninspiring. It is no wonder then that the sex scenes between these two lacked passion and heat. A shame really, because the story really is good. There is no mention if this book is the start of a series but it had ended with only a HFN.

I didn't think I was going to like this book when I started

I didn't think I was going to like this book when I started...Much violence, but once I got into it, couldn't put it down.
A very dark story, very mystical, with demon Gods fighting wars against humans, and the head demon a mix of demon
and elf. If you don't mind the violence, you will enjoy the read.

OK read, could be better (spoilers)

Good writing mechanics. Interesting premise and characters. Sexual elements decent.

Since this is an erotic bdsm fantasy I expect some unreality. That's the nature of this genre. But I do want consistency in characterization and behavior within the parameters the author sets up when a story presents itself as having meaning beyond simple sexual titillation. In this work the MCs have complexity but not consistency. Their words and actions contradict their defined characters constantly. Stupidity arises to advance the action. Insta-growth, Insta-relationship, Insta-plot point.

Especially annoying because most of that could be reconciled by simply having the tale occur over a longer period of time. After a few hundred years or even a few decades it would of been much more realistic for the slave MC to gradually make a connection, the demon MC gradually becoming curious, the father complacent and careless. The story could of lived up to the premise.

IMO of course.

Excellent text and reference guide for Yoga and Breathing techniques

This is a truly classic and the most comprehensive text of Yogasanas. What I liked about the book in addition to intricately detailed steps of achieving poses is -- (1) For difficult poses, it also gives alternative preparatory poses that a beginner can start following to graduate to the actual pose, (2) Towards the end of the book, Shri Iyengar has given week-by-week yoasana guide to start following and go from being a complete novice to the most advanced practitioner. On average it takes 3-6 months to achieve decent skill, and up to 2-3 years to become a master. (3) Also towards the end of the book are given specific Yogasanas to be done for specific health problems, like migraines, heart trouble, high/low BP, backaches etc. (4) The guidance given on how to practice Yogasanas and Pranayama together is excellent. It shows the depth at which Iyengar himself had studied the theory of yoga and pranayama!

Excellent!!!

People who have criticized this book saying it's not for the beginners, should note my point #2 above. I think these people have not paid attention to ALL the sections in the book, and hence have felt discouraged.

The only thing I wish was there was categorization of Asanas according to their focus muscle or organ groups, e.g., "back-bending", "forward bending", "side twisting", "inverted poses" etc.

But apart from this, the book is gold and a must have possession for anyone who's serious about following Yoga! Two thumbs up!

My massage therapist is also a certified Iyengar yoga instructor. After a year plus of massage therapy, she suggested that I might have greater benefits working with her one on one in Iyengar yoga. In my early 60s, I have had lumber surgery and a cervical spine fusion. I was very hesitant to try this but she has taken additional classes in working with people like me. In order to learn more about Iyengar yoga, I purchased this book - it was very illuminating and answered many of my questions - the lead one of which was 'what am I getting into'........Well I am several weeks into working with my instructor and it was a good decision for me, between the use of blocks, the yoga strap, the 3-minute-egg, the folding chair, the ropes anchored to the wall, and an amazing, patient teacher, I can do this. I recommend this text by the founder of Iyengar yoga and I know that I will reread it again. PS: I had studied t'ai chi for several years back in the '90s (remember those?) before life became too complicated - unfortunately, it is hard to find t'ai chi classes in the suburbs and Iyengar yoga is fulfilling spiritually as well as physically - if you were a t'ai chi player and miss the stillness of the moving meditations, look into Iyengar yoga.

Warning! Horrible version of classic book, false advertising

I own the original version of Light on Yoga, which I highly recommend. but I decided to buy Light on Yoga for a friend as a Christmas gift, and I saw the description of this new version. The description claims that the original had been improved in various ways such as the dimensions and organization. I decided to get this updated version and buy myself a copy as well to replace my battered old book. I ordered the books from the seller Nataraj Books. When the books came I was irritated to find that I had been mislead. There were none of the promised improvements, and the quality of the photograph reproductions was horrible. They looked like bad photocopies, all dark and grainy. The photos in the original are crisp and clear. So I sent them both back and ordered the original version for my friend. I don't know why the description here on amazon makes all these claims about improvement, the books I got were definitely worse in every way, including the price. It is very misleading. I would not recommend Nataraj Books at all. I believe they sell low quality books printed in India. The only good thing about it was that they refunded me without any hassle. I recommend the original version highly, but not this shoddy reprint.

About the Author
Robert J. Edwards was a career Army officer in the active component, the reserves and the National Guard. He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant of Armor through the Reserve Officer Training Corps at the University of Nevada, Reno, in 1976 and then served as an armor officer and foreign area specialist in a variety of command and staff positions, both in the United States and in the Federal Republic of Germany. After serving two active duty tours with armor battalions in Germany, he was assigned to the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he taught German for nearly five years. That was followed by a stint as a technical translator for Siemens in Munich and service with a reserve unit there and, in 1993, duties as a mobilization and readiness officer for the Nevada Army National Guard through 1998. That same year, he became a managing partner with J.J. Fedorowicz Publishing in Canada, where he had a hand in translating, editing and laying out nearly 50 titles related to World War II. In 2008, he became a freelance translator and editorial consultant, working closely with Stackpole Books on more than 15 titles in the intervening years.

Long an avid collector of World War II memorabilia, he has co-authored two books on the subject of uniforms of the German armored forces. His interest in armored reconnaissance stems from practical experience as a scout platoon leader and selection for command of a National Guard cavalry squadron, as well as a fascination for the "eyes and ears" of the commander that dates back to his youth. He lives in Navarre along the Emerald Coast in the northwestern part of Florida, along with his wife, Ramona, two dogs, two cats and an ever encroaching army of squirrels in his backyard.

More of an Encyclopedia rather than a History of German Armored Reconnaissance Units in WW2

If you are interested in the minutiae of German reconnaissance units in World War 2, this is the penultimate account for you. That said, it did not meet my personal expectations, e.g. I was hoping to find short chapters on each German armored reconnaissance unit fielded in WW2 with corresponding emphasis on tactical operations and battlefield performance. With abundant material on uniforms, headgear, shoulder epaulets, vehicles, doctrinal development, etc. this book more resembles an encyclopedia rather than a detailed history.

The book is organized into five chapters. Chapter 1, which runs 68 pages, is entitled "The Development of Armored Reconnaissance." Chapter 2 focuses on tables of organization and equipment of various types of panzer reconnaissance units (it ends on page 144). Chapter 3 focuses on "Armored Reconnaissance Vehicles" to the tune of 102 pages. Chapter 4 (40 pages in length) deals with "Uniforms, Insignia and Ephemera." Chapter 5 is entitled "Major Reconnaissance Formations" - this is where you find thumbnail unit histories, which are usually confined to where it served, commanding officers and some tactical narrative. Appendices start on page 503, followed by notes on page 504, bibliography on page 514, and acknowledgments.

One note on sources - there are very few primary sources (in a classical sense) and the RG 242 documents referenced generally consist of PDF Wehrmacht organizational documents from sturmpanzer.com.

The illustrations are unsurpassed. Hands down to being one of the best books on the German Army in terms of photographic coverage. That said, most photos are from the early war period and Eastern front. There were surprisingly few photos from North Africa or Tunisia or post-Normandy Western Front. Modelers and uniform collectors - here is your comprehensive guide to German reconnaissance units of World War 2. For readers who are interested in those aspects of history, you won't find an English language source that eclipses this impressive work.

Best book on German Armored Recon

This is an absolutely amazing book the pictures and information is well presented and clear. There are sections about organization, tactics, and vehicles used. In addition the later section of the book goes through each division in the German army and what particular type of reconnaissance unit it had. There are also many sidebars which present actual after action reports from various German soldiers from these units. My one minor criticism is there are relatively few pictures from 1944-1945(though this is obviously partly because many fewer pictures were taken during this time). Ideally I would have liked a few more pictures of sdkfz 234s, Pz II Luchs, and Aufklarer 38(t)s.

Finally, the Author maintains a website with additional information and sources which couldn't fit in the book. These currently include a vast quantity of illustrated KSTNs indicating how different formations were supposed to be organized, and what equipment they were supposed to have. Furthermore, the author also has several relevant German military manuals on his site as well(A 1939 and 1944 training manual, and a 1940 school exercises manual).

Great pictures, horrible text.

This is one of those series of books that have drudged up some really terrific photos and then coupled them with horrible text, most of which is simply copied and pasted out of official documents. If you are interested in this subject, the pictures are worth the price and maybe you will glean a few interesting tidbits from the text, but overall this book is for looking, not reading.

I wish I could agree with the other two, but this story was just so...unrealistic. Kate really should have had more backbone. Jace was a jerk. The first sex scene was so...not sexy. It was written quick and with dialogue that didn't make the situation all that erotic. And then Jace, who I thought I would like, had no intelligence. I wish Kate had had more sense when he was seducing her, but all she thought was, Oooo that feels too good, I must submit, how could this not be right, blah blah blah blah blah. If I had been Kate, I honestly have to tell you that I would have ditched him a long time ago.

Another sexy-as-hell story! I love this author because her books never go too terribly deep. They're light and fun, even when the characters are angsty. I love to read them in between the books that are just way too heavy because the characters are fun and the sex is a-freaking-mazing!!!

Who hasn't had a Jace in their life? That good-looking hunk you can't resist despite everything your mama taught you! He'll make you do things you never imagined you'd do - god forbid- love to do! I know I have, I used to call him my Mr Big, I might as well call him my Jace from now on!
This story could happen, the everyday girl falling for the too good-looking guy from next door or the next office... most of the time, it'll end with heart break, I'm glad it's not the case here!
I loved the story and the characters. I loved hating Jace, I could totally relate to Kate when she felt used and wanted nothing more than to forget about Jace. But how can you forget about the best sex you've ever had in your life? Really?

Business women must have book is definitely Girl Code

This is the most riveting and inspirational women entreprenuer books I have ever read it sure did motivate me more and gave me the encouragement I need to go and make my dream a reality as a business owner. Mrs. Cara is absolutely s brilliant and successful business women who foot steps I am definitely walking in . God's will I will be taking my boutique from a home front to a storefront.I loved her book so much that the next day after I read the book I ordered her other 3 books Champagne Diet, Fear and Fabulous and Sparkle I am so excited and ready to read it thanks Cara for making these awesome books may God continue to bless you and your business sister.

Anyone who is looking for ways to get out of your own head and really create your purpose in your business needs to read this book! Cara's secrets and tips come from real life, real world experience and her no-bull approach forces you to hold yourself accountable and take yourself and your business seriously. Cara is likable, relatable, and wonderful, not to mention supportive and the best source any female entrepreneur could ask for. Amazing!

Shallow drivel

There is no useful information about entrepreneurship here. None whatsoever. Nothing at all about what it actually takes to start your own business, develop a brand, network better as a female, or really anything that the cover copy claims. This booklet is little more than a spinoff of "girl boss," which is already a shallow and useless book.

Here is a summary of the "entrepreneurship advice" in this book.
-Compliment other women regularly
-Don't be jealous of other women
-Compliment other womens' shoes
-Don't be jealous of other women
-Marry a man who isn't "intimidated" by your "ambition."

The "interviews" are redundant drivel from a bunch of arbitrarily selected "girl bosses" that more or less tell you to believe in yourself, follow your passion, and keep going when the going gets tough. No actual, functional advice for women in business, but plenty of lengthy personal anecdotes about the author rushing to TV appearances and getting her eyelashes done.

I have no idea what's up with all the great reviews, unless the entire reader audience is under-educated millennial women who follow Cara's blog and have no aspirations of starting their own business.
