Accessible to newcomers, yet interesting for scholars

Dr. Savi, a true renaissance man (physician, poet, musician, aesthete, multi-lingual translator, theologian, administrator) has given the world another excellent tome. *Towards the Summit of Reality* primarily provides background knowledge to allow the reader to move closer toward understanding Baha'u'llah's greatest mystical work, His *The Seven Valleys*, as well as another mystical work, *The Four Valleys*. Intelligently written, systematic, and emotionally sensitive, *Towards the Summit of Reality* was a page-turner for me. I devoured it. Students of religion, those interested in the mystical path, those intrigued by Sufism, those wanting to understand the Baha'i Faith better, or simply people who want material to help them ponder the spiritual journey, will find this book useful, highly readable, enjoyable, and full of important insights. Personally, as a developmental psychologist, I find the spiritual developmental journey in *The Seven Valleys* fascinating, and Dr. Savi has now helped me understand that text much better than I ever did before. Thank you.

A prolific author, Dr. Gitman has published more than 50 articles appearing in FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT, the FINANCIAL REVIEW, JOURNAL OF FINANCIAL PLANNING, JOURNAL OF RISK AND INSURANCE, FINANCIAL SERVICES REVIEW, JOURNAL OF FINANCIAL RESEARCH, FINANCIAL PRACTICE AND EDUCATION, JOURNAL OF FINANCIAL EDUCATION, and other scholarly publications. He has authored and coauthored numerous best-selling textbooks on various finance and business topics as well as investing. Essential for an MBA or Managers

This book "Principles of Managerial Finance" by Lawrence J Gitman is very helpfull for MBA students, graduates, or professional managers. The methods for finance analysis is very clear and straightforward and easy to understand.
The sample cases (based on actual cases) help give insights to readers towards how to implement finance theory into real life finance problem solving.

Need student solutions manual

I found the book to be interesting but some of the material was hard to grasp and unless you have some additional and supplemental material from your instructor this would only make it more difficult to understand. Another problem is the fact that there is no student solutions manual available to purchase with this book and there are only a few answers provided at the end of the book for end of chapter problems. I found the book almost as demanding as a calculus book so a solutions manual would be appropriate. I have a understanding of finance and accounting and yet I found the material somewhat hard to grasp so I can imagine how difficult it would be for a novice. The material needs to be presented in a better fashion and more examples need to be given for different scenarios.

A great collaborative effort!

This is a wonderful collaboration of some of the most respected and experienced people working in the field of social entrepreneurship. It covers a wide range of issues and does so in more detail than I have seen in other publications on the field. In particular, I was pleased to see a chapter on legal/tax issues and one on pricing - two topics that many organizations have a lot of questions about, and are often not emphasized in publications. This is definitely a good addition to your collection if you run a non-profit engaged in earned income activities, or if you interact with such organizations.

About the Author
T. J. Clark is Chancellor's Professor of Modern Art at the University of California, Berkeley, and the author of Image of the People: Gustave Courbet and the 1848 Revolution, The Absolute Bourgeois: Artists and Politics in France, 1848-1851, and Farewell to an Idea: Episodes from a History of Modernism.

An Art History Book For Anyone Interested in History

I like to think of myself as a person who is curious about a wide range of things, especially in the realm of culture and the arts. Most art history books, however, put me right to sleep, with their endless catalogs of curatorial details about brushstrokes and paint textures and influences and provenance. These detailed analyses almost never situate the paintings in any sort of context and almost never explain WHY we should be interested in these details, other than to prove ourselves worthy connoiseurs to others in the know. Clark's book is a refreshing change from such mandarin drivel. Clark begins with a lengthy discussion of the social context of the paintings he is about to discuss and only then proceeds to extended analyses of particular paintings. Clark is interested in the larger ideas and trends of the period and, most important of all, actually USES the details of the paintings as evidence in the course of making an ARGUMENT about what the paintings mean (hint to other art historians: having an argument contributes significantly to the interest of a book or article). In addition, Clark's argument about the nature of the social changes occuring in France in the 1860's and 70's is compelling and thought-provoking (be forewarned: some Marxism is involved). I found myself actually learning things about the paintings Clark discusses, and looking at them over and over again, trying to find more in them, in much the same way as I would go back to a book or a poem after reading a good piece of literary criticism. I think this book will appeal to anyone who wants to learn more about either 19th-century French painting or 19th-century France. Clark is a stimulating and perceptive guide to this crucial period in the history of painting. Bravo!

As perfect as the paintings he discusses?

As a student of nineteenth century French painting, I think this may in fact be the finest book ever written on Parisian painting in the time of Haussmanization. Clark manages to offer an intelligent Marxist-based claim about class and the emerging Parisian landscape in the 60's without losing sight of the paintings themselves. While most scholars feel the genius of this book lies in his wonderful discussion of "what couldn't be seen in Olympia", I find the first chapter "Environs of Paris" equally fascinating in its discussion of Manet's Exposition Universelle of 1867. A MUST read for any lover of Parisian history or Manet.

ad infinitum

Clark often interrupts himself and unabashedly links sentences together with numerous colons, hyphens, and semicolons, thus making his ideas unclear at times.

He is very unorganized when developing ideas and likes to make and counter his argument in the same breath.

It becomes ironically evident after reading the preface, introduction, and first chapter that Clark is writing for his colleagues in academia and not for the masses.

Once you get use to his longwinded style the rest of the book is fantastic.

Textbook

I bought this as a textbook for a class I was taking on school and community health. Some concepts in this textbook were difficult to understand after only having taken one introduction to health education class. However, the book cites plenty of resources and references. I have used other books by McKenzie and find him to be a great author.

Great introductory to Public Health

I'm using this book currently for a Public Health course. I love how it explains the history of the beginning of a certain health laws in the United States and what it has manifested to at the present. Love this book and would recommend it to anyone just starting off in the Public Health field.
